Usually power take off is used to transfer power from an engine to other device. For example, it is used in truck mounted vehicles such as tippers, garbage compactors, truck mounted cranes, skip loaders and car carriers. In these types of vehicles does not have separate power supply to the trucks but this operation is necessary. For giving this operation to the vehicle, power take off takes power from engine and convert it into mechanical force and applies on the truck and equipment.

There are two types of PTO based on the work, live and independent. The live PTO use two stage clutches for its operation and it allows slow down or changing gear operation while PTO is running. In independent PTO is controlled by the separate clutch and this independent PTO have two major types, mechanical and hydraulic. These two PTO have differentiation in selector, mechanical use separate on-off selector and hydraulic have only single for these two operations. I have seen some vehicle that gives efficiency in supplying power using these types of PTO in very low or not applicable. At that time I got idea, changing PTO based on the requirement of the vehicle. In this idea I found one important concept, most of the PTO work have close relation to gear boxes.

For example using different brand of vehicle requires different types of PTO. Consider now we using TATA truck model LPT 407 in this type of require different gearboxes and PTO.
